Flexitron is pleased to present Crack in Consciousness, a duo show of work by Juliet Dodson and Kasia Wozniak.
Cracks in Consciousness explores liminal states where one image, thought, or material blurs into another. Permanence and fragility, malfunction and strength coexist in a delicate tension. Through double layered imagery and obscured forms, both artists veil elements within their works, whether visual or material, which are revealed upon closer inspection as the uncanny surfaces from the subconscious mind.
Juliet Dodson’s armoured sleeve, Untitled (2025), gestures with exhaustion, fallible and fragile in the absence of its wearer. Lingering in the space, as though observing over the scene, Standby (2025), depicts a figure in a similarly embellished armour, acting a direct continuity within the film set/stage her practices creates. Between self and role, the figure inhabits a liminal state of being/performance. Metal is pierced and stitched, turning knitwear to armour; needles, exhausted from sewing, curl and thread themselves.
Kasia Wozniak’s practice considers transformation as both a physical and metaphysical process - how material shifts echo internal states of becoming. Her wet plate collodion photographs are selected from their series Objects in Space (2017) and Cosmic Egg (2025), alongside new work which embarks on a research series exploring the alchemy of symbols. Through layered surfaces and translucent forms, Wozniak examines cycles of protection and exposure, containment and release. Her works evoke a space of metamorphosis, where matter hovers between the organic and the elemental. The soft, transient imagery sits in direct contrast to the hard edged, metal supports they are presented on.
In dialogue, their practices reveal a shared sensitivity to material instability. Metal is rendered fragile and tactile, constructing a space that feels both intimate and uncanny. Here, rupture and repair intertwine, each gesture both an undoing and a mending.
